DSS STAFF PRESENTS DONATATION TO PROJECT LIFESAVER – Members of the Oswego County Department of Social Services Employees’ Staff Association presented a check for $320 to Michael Allen, director of the Oswego E-911 Center as the Oswego County Legislature’s Public Safety and Emergency Services Committee looked on. The donation will go toward new equipment for Project Lifesaver in Oswego County.

PROJECT LIFESAVER RECEIVES DONATATION FROM OSWEGO COUNTY DEPUTIES ASSOCIATION – The Oswego County Deputies Association recently donated $500 to Project Lifesaver in Oswego County. The contribution will be used to acquire new transmitter bracelets, batteries and receivers for the program.

Oswego County maintains a contract with Project Lifesaver International. Project Lifesafer is a non-profit organization whose goal is to assist in the location of lost people who have Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome, Dementia, Autism and other related disorders. Project Lifesaver partners with law enforcement and other public safety agencies, providing the equipment and training necessary to aid victims and families living with these disorders.

Statistics have shown a dramatic increase in the number of people who have Alzheimer's, Down Syndrome, Dementia, Autism and other related disorders.

When someone with a Project Lifesaver transmitter bracelet wanders off, the Oswego County Sheriff's Department, local law enforcement and the Oswego County Search & Rescue Team are dispatched by the E 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Center. Specially trained personnel will respond with the special Project Lifesaver receiver units used to pinpoint the lost client's location.

On average nationally, the recovery time of a client who has gone missing with the Project Lifesaver bracelet is 30 minutes. Because Project Lifesaver results in the rapid location of lost persons the rate of success is impressive. In over 2,218 searches conducted nationally - there have been no reports of persons who have gone missing suffering from serious injuries. Nor have any fatalities been reported.

The E 9-1-1 Emergency Communications Department has made the commitment to perform all administrative duties associated with this program.
